はじめまして、オーストラリアのメルボルン出身のマイケルです。趣味はフェンシングをしたり、旅行したり、様々な食べ物を食べたりすることです。中学校一年生からずっと第2外国語として、日本語を勉強しています。高校二年生の時に二週間の学校ツアーで来日し、日本の文化についてたくさん学んで興味を待ちました。その学校ツアーはすごく楽しくて、大学で日本語を勉強することにしました。大学に入ってからも日本語クラブで活動して、東京の一橋大学に一年間留学しました。留学は2020年の前半に終わり、その後、東京オリンピックパラリンピックで働く予定でしたが、コロナの影響で働くことができなくなりました。帰国後、日本で働くために日本語の勉強を続けた結果、今回、松戸市国際交流協会のCIR(国際交流員)になることができました。松戸市の国際的な知名度を上げるために松戸市の伝統芸能・文化や美しい場所などを海外から来た人たちに紹介したいと思います。またオーストラリア文化やスポーツも紹介します。MIEAのいろいろなイベントで皆さんにお会いすることを楽しみにしています。

My name is Michael Kenneth Dowd and I am from Melbourne in Australia. I’m a big fan of fencing, traveling, and trying out different foods. I have studied Japanese ever since year 7 and became interested in Japan’s culture when I went on a 2-week exchange trip to Japan in year 11. I enjoyed this exchange trip so much that I decided to study Japanese even more seriously. During university, I became involved with the Japanese club and also did a year of exchange at Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo. My exchange finished in early 2020 and I originally had plans to come back to work at the 2020 Olympics but unfortunately, this did not turn out due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Setting a goal to come back to work here someday, I studied from 2020-2023 succeeding eventually becoming a CIR for Matsudo City. I will do my best to increase the appeal of Matsudo to those coming from abroad by showing them the wonderful sights of this city. I look forward to meeting you all at MIEA’s events.
